After taking last weekend off due to exams, I am back with my predictions for what looks to be a thrilling Final Four!
The #10 Syracuse Orange will take on tournament favourite #1 North Carolina Tar Heels tonight at 8:49pm. UNC has had a relatively easy March Madness up until this point, but I expect that all to change tonight. Syracuse is a 10 seed, which technically qualifies them a cinderella team and heavy underdog, but that is certainly not the case here. Simply, an ACC team can never be a cinderella, and I expect this game to be extremely close. These teams played each other twice this season already as a part of ACC conference play. UNC won both times, but certainly not with ease. The combination of the rivalry nature of this game and the Final Four stakes should make this the more exciting of the two match-ups tonight. It is easy to say the Tar Heels will win, but I think Syracuse could string an improbably victory tonight if freshman guard Malachi Richardson has a big night.
The #2 Villanova Wildcats face up against the #2 Oklahoma Sooners tonight at 6:09pm. The Sooners seem to be a fan favourite, but Villanova should not be discredited that easily. The Wildcats only lost 5 games all season and were expected to win the Big East Championship. In opposition, the equally ranked Sooners, have had nation wide popularity as a result of senior star Buddy Hield. Both these #2 seeds topped #1 seeds in the previous Elite Eight round and this one could easily go either way. The deciding factors will be how well the Wildcats shoot from beyond the arch and their ability to guard Buddy Hield. I expect Heild to take over this game in the last few minutes and allow the Sooners to advance to the NCAA Championship.
